Berlin, I know you. It may not be by name or face. But I know you by your character. By your values and morals. I know you by your work ethic. I know you by your struggles. I know your history. I know your spirit. I know your passion. I know you by your language. I know your children. I understand their boredom and curiosity of what's beyond what they see. No, I did not start life here among you. But I am here now because you remind me of where I am from. And I believe you are good, decent caring people like where I am from. You may see me as someone who may not truly understand. But I do. And I care. Because you have given me the feeling of home which I have not felt since leaving mine so many years ago. A place with a paper mill. And people who I grew up with and I knew by face and by name. People who share all the same qualities that I find here among you. I am not asking for acceptance. I am asking to be given the opportunity to earn my place among you. I am not asking you to change. It is I who is in search for what I left behind so many years ago. Please don't change. For it is these qualities that are the fabric of your community and identify you for whom you truly are. They are the strength of your future. A future not to be frightened of. But rather looked on as bright and self-fulfilling. It's now in your hands. And if I know you like I believe I do, you will do great things. Thank You Berlin. You have welcomed my family into your home. As I suspected you would. For that we are appreciative. We hope to be here for many years and be part of your new future.
